Political Ecology and Extractive Agriculture

He examines how extractive industries produce both environmental and social impacts. He has researched the essential oil industry in Haiti and the pineapple industry in Costa Rica. He also does research with smallholding farmers practicing agroecology. 

Theorizing Aid Projects

 He looks at the bureaucracy of aid to understand how administrative and bureaucratic requirements create social impacts. 

Aid Displacement and Remedy

He conducts collaborative research to understand how displacement caused by aid projects impacts people's lives in Haiti, and how remedy for previous displacement does or does not improve lives.
